THE MEET UP: WOMEN IN TECH EVENT MANAGEMENT | PART OF FREQUENCY FESTIVAL 2019

In 2019 the Frequency International Festival of Digital Culture invited us to manage the operation of their inaugural THE MEET UP event ahead of the 2019 programme to set the scene for one of the UK’s leading digital culture festivals.

With the theme of Women In Tech, THE MEET UP brought together over 100 women from all over the country working in the tech field. Panellists and keynotes speakers included Dr Anne–Marie Imafidon MBE (Co-Founder of the Stemettes), Ghislaine Boddington (Co-Founder and Creative Director of body>data>space and Women Shift Digital), Donna Close (Director, AMP Culture, Associate Director at Festivals and Events International, Associate Director Threshold Studios) and Uzma Johal MBE (Co-Founder and Co-Director of Threshold Studios and Co-Director of Frequency Festival).

Aim

THE MEET UP curators, Ghislaine and Uzma, needed to have their hands free on the day in order to make sure that the audience and panellists got the most out of the event. Their goal in engaging Creative Rebel CIC was to make sure that the off-stage actions such as setting up breakout spaces for lunch, making sure refreshments arrived on time and managing the technical delivery of the event went off without a hitch.

Outcome

We created a relaxed event space incorporating stage, audience seating, breakout space and exhibition space that allowed for easy flow between activities. Using our technical expertise we were able to deliver high-quality outputs ensuring that the audience was able to participate fully in the panels and keynote talks. We liaised with the venue in advance of the event to ensure that spaces were set correctly, food and refreshments were scheduled, and we liaised with outside suppliers to ensure that staging, lighting and furniture all arrived on time so that the event ran like clockwork.
